EMERGENCY services have been called to a fire in a house boat in Brightlingsea marina.

Police have cordoned off a part of Morgan's Boat Yard in Copperas Road.

Ambulance crews, firefighters and the air ambulance is also at the scene.

Update 9:45am

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance said a woman has been seriously injured.

An air ambulance and land ambulance are on the scene, as well as a hazaradous area response team.

Update 9.55am

Firefighters from Brightlingsea and Clacton attended the blaze.

The fire was extinguished just before 8.50am.

An investigation will be carried out to establish the cause.

Update 10.30am

The ambulance service has confirmed the woman injured in the blaze has died.

The ambulance service was called at 7.53am.

A spokesman said: "We sent an ambulance, the hazardous area response team (HART), an ambulance officer and Herfordshire Air Ambulance to the scene of a houseboat fire this morning.

"Sadly despite the best efforts of everyone involved, the woman was declared dead at the scene and our thoughts are with her friends and family at this time."

Update 10.45am

Essex Police was called to Morgans Boatyard in Copperas Road just before 7.55am this morning.

A spokesman said: "A woman was rescued from the boat by firefighters and was given emergency medical assistance at the scene by police and paramedics as well as doctors from the Essex Air Ambulance.

"Sadly she was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation in to the cause of the fire will be carried out, however, it is not thought to be suspicious."

Fire service incident commander Mark Wilby told crime reporter Adam Cornell:

"When we turned up we could see smoke coming from the boat. We had to force entry.

"Fire crews administered CPR before leaving her in the hands of the paramedics.

"All of us would like to send our condolences to her family."
