A CRICKET club has urged the developers behind plans to turn a former pub into a doctor’s surgery and chemist to help it improve its own facilities.
Barkley Projects has applied to demolish the Langenhoe Lion in Mersea Road, between Abberton and Langenhoe.
There would also be an 18-space car park and two, four-bedroom detached homes.
But the plans have been met with concern from residents including Abberton and District Cricket Club, based in Abberton Road.
Treasurer Brian Bashford said the planning application tried to justify the loss of the village amenity by saying the village school, hall, church and cricket club provided “adequate social provision.”
But he said the club doesn’t have to cash to provide the void left by the loss of the pub long term.
