A MAN needed stitches after being attacked by a group of youths in Clacton town centre.

The 57-year-old victim was verbally assaulted, before the group of young attackers pushed him to the floor and hit him in the head with a stick.

It happened in an alley between High Street and Rosemary Road at about 5.30pm on Wednesday January 22.

The blow with the stick left the man needing stitches to his head and he was taken to Colchester General Hospital by paramedics.

Investigating officer PC Keith Rowland said: “This man had to spend the night in hospital where he received stitches to a head wound.

“He has been left shaken and upset by this unprovoked attack.

“There may have been people walking home from work who would have seen the assault and they may be a key witness.”

Anyone with information should call 101.
