THE PRIME Minister has pledged his support to South Suffolk MP Tim Yeo.

Mr Yeo was deselected by the Conservative Party after being cleared of breaching the code of conduct.

The Parliamentary Standards Commissioner quashed allegations that the MP broke the rules of the House when he was secretly filmed by Sunday Times journalists.

They were posing as representatives of a company promoting new energy-efficient solar technology.

Mr Yeo was accused of offering to approach ministers on the company's behalf, and of telling a businessman employed by the firm with which he has financial links what to say to a committee he chaired.

Now, Prime Minister David Cameron has written to Mr Yeo describing him as a benefit to the party and the country.

He added that he hoped a vote, due next month, on whether to overturn the deselection saw him reinstated.
