A MAN has been told to go on a sex offenders’ course for a series of “thoroughly unpleasant” incidents involving a teenage girl.

Kevin Weavers was told by a Chelmsford Crown Court judge yesterday he had brought shame and embarrassment on his family and friends for the three assaults on the girl, aged 15.

The court heard he had also left his victim shocked, shaken and feeling sick by what happened in his car on July 18.

Weavers, 62, told police after the incident it had been “a moment of madness” and he bitterly regretted what had happened.

He admitted two sex assaults and another charge of encouraging the girl to engage in sex activity when he appeared in court for sentence.

Judge David Turner QC told Weavers to attend the threeyear sex offenders’ course. He was also given a three-year supervision order and told to keep away from his victim.

Weavers, of Bay View Crescent, Little Oakley, knew the girl and was giving her a lift to a shop when he carried out two assaults on her in the vehicle.

There was another incident later on the way back from the shop, prosecutor Gareth Hughes told the court.

The teenager contacted her boyfriend and her parents later confronted Weavers.

The judge said they were “shocked and outraged” over what had taken place.

David Carne, mitigating, said the incidents had been a one-off and there was no chance of anything similar happening again.

He said: “He regrets what took place and wishes to apologise for his behaviour.”

The judge told Weavers: “These offences were thoroughly unpleasant and they simply should not have happened.

“This was a disgraceful piece of conduct.”
