A WOMAN will fulfil her late husband’s ambition to visit Australia when she takes part in a charity fundraiser in his memory.

Cynthia Wilcock, 63, of Rectory Hill, Wivenhoe, will climb across the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in aid of St Helena Hospice – about 130 metres in the air.

She decided to take on the challenge in memory of her husband Michael, who died from cancer in January 2012.

She said: “My husband and I always wanted to go to Australia.

I’m not getting any younger, so this is something I’m going to do.

“I’m quite excited to do it. It is a challenge.

“I’m not scared of heights, but I’m sure my legs will turn to jelly. I’m determined to do it.”

She is taking on the challenge with her sister-inlaw Marina Dearsley, who lives in Australia.

The pair will be doing it on January 24 and are aiming to complete the climb within three hours.

So far they have raised almost £500 towards their £1,000 target.

Mrs Wilcock praised the support given to her husband and others by the hospice.

She said: “I couldn’t fault them. I wanted to show my appreciation in some way. I thought this would be nice.”
