A 23-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of assault after a teenager was struck in the face with a glass during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Police were called by the ambulance service shortly after 4am today following reports that a woman had been struck in the face with a glass outside Natwest in Heralds Way, South Woodham Ferrers.

Officers arrived and found a 19-year-old girl from South Woodham Ferrers with facial injuries at Asda in Queen Elizabeth Square.

She was taken to Broomfield hospital in Chelmsford by paramedics and remains in a stable condition.

A 23-year-old woman, who is known to the victim, was arrested at her home in South Woodham Ferrers shortly before 10am on suspicion of assault.

She is currently being questioned by detectives at Chelmsford Police Station.
