A TEACHER says his pupils’ lives are being put at risk by parents’ dangerous parking.

David Boggis, assistant head of Thomas Lord Audley School, Colchester said pleas to some parents not to park in the narrow School Road, Monkwick, had fallen on deaf ears.

Many parents are still parking there despite the school’s efforts, and a campaign by the Gazette, to make the road safer after eightyear- old Tiana Page, was seriously hurt in a car accident outside Monkwick Junior School in the same road, in December 2011.

Mr Boggis said: “The majority of parents are abiding by the law, but a small minority are putting the young people’s lives at risk.

“Between children from our school and Monkwick Junior and Infant schools, about 1,000 young people come in and out of school on that road, so it can be very dangerous.”

Both sides of the road have single yellow line restrictions, which apply during schoolrun hours, plus zig-zag lines on which drivers should never park.

Mr Boggis said: “I would urge parents to please heed the restrictions. The safety of pupils must be paramount.”

He also welcomed news a North Essex Parking Partnership “spy car” was to be brought in to enforce parking near local schools next year. He said: “That is a fantastic idea and something that is coming not a moment too soon.”
