A CHURCH trustee has admitted in court using a hidden camera to shoot videos of a woman showering and using the toilet.

Music teacher Timothy Pooley, 50, of Maldon Road, Witham, admitted three charges of voyeurism when he appeared before Colchester Magistrates’ Court.

Pooley was listed on the Bethel Christian Fellowship, as a church trustee. The church meets every Sunday at the Maltings Academy, in Spinks Lane.

He also gives private music lessons.

The court was told the offences were committed between January and June. He admitted two charges of recording a private act and one of operating equipment to observe.

Pooley, who cried throughout yesterday’s hearing, will be sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court in January. The court was told he used his iPhone to make videos of the victim getting undressed, showering and using the toilet.

On one occasion, Pooley went into a bathroom and set up his phone before the woman took a shower.

After getting out, she noticed the phone, pointed with the lens facing into the room, and picked it up. She saw it was recording and looked back at the footage before calling police.

Officers searched Pooley’s home and found a hard drive with several videos of her, some of which had been edited.

Wayne Ablett, prosecuting, said: “She said she was shaken by the whole incident. It was a serious breach of trust. It caused her shock and concern.

“She was mortified when she found out what had happened.

She felt violated.”

Pooley’s lawyer said nothing at the hearing.

Pooley was bailed with condition he does not contact the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

He was suspended from the church in June following the offence.
