Paramedics treat driver after town centre crash

Gazette: Crash on Westway Crash on Westway

EMERGENCY services are on the scene of a crash at the bottom of Balkerne Hill, Colchester.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “The collision happened when the driver of a white Honda Civic appears to have lost control of the car and struck the roundabout at the junction of Westway, shortly after midday.

“Paramedics are on the scene assessing the male driver’s condition.

“Police have been forced to close a section of the road while the vehicle is removed and the man is treated for his injuries”.

A Colchester fire engine was also called out to clear up oil from the road.

I will take you up on that, because I was on the other side of the road going in the opposite direction and I think it was a Type R.

Monkey 1980 , I dont see why you called me an idiot for stating what I saw. I actually agree with you, being a professional driver myself, I see too many older people who cannot drive still behind the wheel of a car, but will we want to give up our independence when we reach an old age. I am not going to comment on here what I actually saw, but Im sure the Police will be able to determine how this accident happened quite easily.

Actually I can put u all right and say it was a young lad who was quite badly hurt. Our motorbike was hit and we went to his assistance where I held him (with injuries myself) until the paramedics get there. He didn't strike the roundabout, he struck the central reservation.

I am sure his parents are very grateful for your kindness, despite your own injuries. I wish you a speedy recovery, well done Lorrie12.

I hope you will pay the £10 to a charity, maybe even double it for your judgemental attitude

I had a rear brake caliper fail on me going down this hill in the 90's in a metro. I was barely able to stop and did a 180' turn in the road. It was rush hour and I was very lucky and didn't hit anything. All for a part that cost less than a tenner.

Ritchie_hicks, I remember seeing your metro up the roundabout, I always wondered how it happened, glad you were ok, as it must have been terrifying. Your incident serves as a reminder when I drive down Balkerne Hill, as mechanical failure is always a possibility. Hope the driver of the Civic, no mater the age or gender is doing well.
