THE leader of Colchester’s Conservative group is hoping to raise £1,000 for the town’s night shelter by sleeping rough for a night.

Will Quince will be joined by friends Jim Musk, Dan Ellis and Darius Laws for Friday’s sleepout in Colchester High Street.

It is the third time the trio has slept out to raise money for the night shelter, in Alexandra Road, raising more than £2,500 since 2009.

They will huddle in a High Street doorway between 6pm on Friday and 6am on Saturday.

Mr Quince said: We’re doing it because it is a poignant time of year.

“People will be looking forward to spending Christmas, warm in their homes, but there are people who won’t have that luxury.

“We know what were are expecting. In our experience, before midnight, people are supportive but after that it changes.

“I believe that’s why the majority of homeless people leave the town centre at night, to escape the abuse.

“Colchester Night Shelter does a great job and I’d love to raise £1,000 for it.”
