A HALL in Greenstead has been handed over to a community group.

The Forest Road Meeting Hall has been taken over by Greenstead Community Association, which also runs the community centre in Hawthorn Avenue.

It was previously run by Colne Housing, which has upgraded the hall over the past three years.

Alistair Heron, community development officer at the housing association, said: “It was always Colne’s intention to renovate the hall and make sure it was properly managed and financially viable before passing it on.

“We’re particularly grateful to council colleagues for agreeing the lease transfer and friends at the Hythe Community Centre for their expertise and advice.”

Toni Knights, manager of the existing community centre, said: “This is yet another exciting development in our tenth anniversary year, following the extension of our cafe opening hours, the launch of a new youth club and the establishment of WorkFIT, a programme of job training. There’s plenty of hard work ahead but Greenstead is on the up.”
