TWO mums whose sons were stabbed to death told a meeting how knife crime should be tackled.

Caroline Shearer and Ann Oakes-Odger shared heartbreaking details about how their sons Jay Whiston and Westley Odger were killed in Colchester seven years apart.

Jay, 17, was knifed outside a house party in Marlowe Way in September last year and Wesley was stabbed at a cashpoint in Greenstead in 2005.

They were speaking at a knife summit organised by the Safer Colchester Partnership at Colchester Town Hall today.

The meeting heard there were 322 knife crimes recorded in Essex this year up to October, up from 260 last year, and 10 per cent of those were in Colchester.
