A RACING car driver is living life in the fast lane, modelling for London store Harrods.

Josh Wakefield, 21, of Baden Powell Drive, Colchester, ismore used to being in overalls racing highperformance cars.

But he’s just made his modelling debut for the Douvall’s Argon Oil range of men’s grooming products, which is being promoted by the worldfamous Knightsbridge store.

The products include moisturisers, cleansers and bronzing aids, and will be launched at Harrods in spring.

Josh said: “Doing the modelling was more nerve-wracking than driving a racing car round Brands Hatch at high speed!”

His modelling big break came about after a photographer who had taken pictures of him racing was commissioned to snap the Douvall’s range.

Josh said: “He put one of my pictures up for the audition for the models.

“I must say I was surprised, but delighted, when I was chosen for such a prestigious campaign.

“I suppose if you want to start at the top, you can’t get much higher than Harrods.

“I had done some photographic modelling before – mainly connected to motor sport, but this was something different. It was a step into the unknown for me, with professional make-up artists and hairdressers fussing around. I was expecting a couple of quick shots and we’d be done – only it wasn’t that easy.

“Everything seemed to take ages and the pictures we did were set against a plain blue screen. That way, they can be put against any type of background the people at Harrods want.”

Although the former Philip Morant School pupil enjoyed modelling job, his ambitions remain firmly rooted in motor racing.

He said: “My father and I are now focussed on next season and we’re considering what class I should drive in, and for what team.”

Josh has been racing for five years and his most recent achievement was during last year’s jubilee weekend when he won a place on the podium at Silverstone in a world endurance championship.

Josh was behind the wheel of a Ferrari and he and his British team-mate finished third in their class.
