A WOMAN had her hair chopped off in support of a friend who is fighting cancer.

Jenny Metcalfe, 37, of St Osyth, was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year.

She had surgery to remove the cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy – causing her hair to fall out.

Pal Sally Capaldi decided to face the razor and volunteer for a sponsored head shave in a show of support.

She had her locks chopped off in front of shoppers at the Tesco in Brook Retail Park, Clacton where she works with Jenny.

Sally said: “It was brilliant. I was stunned by how many people came out to watch and support Jenny and me.

“People have been great and I have taken so many donations.

“It has been an amazing experience. I can only imagine how hard it has been for Jenny and this was one way that I could be there for her.

“I get a few shocked looks from people but I actually quite like it. I can now get ready in 20 minutes when it used to take me that long just to dry my hair.”

Sally raised more than £1,000 for cancer charities.

She said: “It was quite emotional but I’m so happy to be able to do something to support my friend and raise some money and awareness of the disease.”
