A SOLAR farm should not be build between Little Clacton and Great Holland, according to two councillors.

Little Horkesley-based Push Energy wants to install 46,000 panels on a section of Sladburys Farm.

It will produce enough energy to power 2,700 homes.

Frinton and Walton Town Council has recommended Tendring Council refuses the scheme.

Mark Cossens, town councillor and farmer, said: “The quality of land in Tendring is incredibly good and I think it would be of better use remaining as farm land.

“I think there are better ways for us to cut our carbon footprint while making use of prime farming land.

“It is a beautiful area too, and this is not the sort of change I would like to see.”

Sladburys Farm is in Clacton, but the land extends into Great Holland.

Some residents living near the earmarked area have criticised the plans, with several speaking out at the Frinton and Walton Town Council meeting.

They said the solar panels would ruin the natural beauty of the area.
