Village homes plan put on ice
11:00am Saturday 2nd November 2013 in News
PLANS to build 50 homes on a controversial site have been put on ice after clear the air talks were held.
Tendring District Council needs to build the homes in Alresford but after initially consulting residents and parish councillors, plans were put forward for two sites off Cockaynes Lane.
But the sites were unpopular in the village because there are access and environmental problems.
Now, after discussions, Ernie Osborne, Alresford Parish Council chairman, said Tendring planners have agreed to move the goal posts and instead look at sites near to St Andrew’s Close.
Mr Osborne said: “Our meeting with Tendring went very well from our point of view and I think it is a victory for people power.
“This is the Big Society in action and I think common sense prevailed.”
He added: “It is a big relief. We understand the need for new homes, but it has to be in a sustainable and suitable place for the village.”
A Tendring District Council spokesman said talks have been “productive” and added a final decision will be made on Friday at a cabinet meeting.
