Colchester Council: Please help us clear parks from storm damage
4:53pm Thursday 31st October 2013 in News
PART of Colchester’s Castle Park will finally reopen on Saturday morning.
Lower Castle Park closed after Monday morning’s storm left the beauty spot covered with damaged trees.
A Colchester Council spokesman said it would reopen on Saturday after two dangerous trees are felled tomorrow.
Residents reported 250 fallen trees after Monday’s heavy rain and high winds, while hundreds of the boroughs remaining 22,000 were damaged.
The authority has now asked the public to help clear the borough’s green spaces by gathering small, fallen branhces into piles so they can be collected.
Annie Feltham, councillor for communities, praised council officers for their clean-up efforts.
She said: “We’d like to encourage the general public, whether they are out walking the dog or out simply getting some fresh air in our beautiful open spaces, to gather up any small sticks they can put them into piles so they are easier to collect.”
Bulky branches and logs, and those still hanging from trees, will be collected by the council.
