NOW you see it, now you don’t.

That’s quickly becoming Joe Oyelade’s catchphrase as he wows fans and judges across the country.

The talented 13-year-old has been crowned the Magic Circle’s Young Magician of the Year - at his first attempt.

Thurstable School pupil Joe, 13, of Thyme Road, Tiptree, won over judges with his routine, which saw him start with nothing in his hand before producing three coins.

He then made each of them vanish before he produced a deck of cards out of thin air.

Joe said: “I probably did the routine 30 times the night before to make sure I got it right.

“I never expected to win at all.

“I was the only one whose first time it was in the competition, so everyone had much more experience than me.”

Magician’s routines must also be between eight and ten minutes.
If it is over or under that timescale, they are disqualified. No watches are allowed during the routine.

His win means he could now be asked to do events or even TV shows.

He added: “Winning helps me build a little bit of a reputation, so if the Magic Circle is asked for people to do shows or to do TV, it will quite often be the competition winners who are asked.

“I’d love to get on TV like Dynamo.”

Proud mum Jenny Hogg, added: “It makes all the travel we’ve had to do worthwhile.

“He really enjoys doing it and I’m so happy for him.”

Joe practices two weekends out of four in Clacton and often goes to London for Magic Circle training sessions.
