Kwik Fit quits Osborne Street
3:57pm Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in News
A CAR repair company has moved out of a unit earmarked for a new shopping centre.
Kwik Fit has moved from Osborne Street, Colchester to new premises in North Station Road.
The Osborne Street site is one of the buildings earmarked for redevelopment as part of the Vineyard Gate Shopping Centre.
However, the lease is up for grabs for a maximum of three years suggesting the £70million scheme is a few years away.
Property consultants Whybrow is marketing the site.
Ewan Dodds, managing director, said: “We had instructions to put it on the market because Kwik Fit’s lease had expired.
“We are marketing it for a new lease, albeit a short one.
“It will only be for a maximum of three years but it could be shorter.
“We have already had interest in the site, but it could be used for all sorts of things, depending on planning permission of course.”
It is understood Caddick, which is behind the Vineyard Gate Shopping Centre plans, owns the Kwik Fit building.
The shopping centre has been on the cards since 2002, but was delayed in 2009 because of the economic downturn.
Caddick last month said it hopes to submit a planning application for a 175,000 sq ft shopping centre in early 2014.
