Council tax rise could be on the cards
A COUNCIL tax rise could be on the cards for Colchester residents, a senior councillor has hinted.
Paul Smith, councillor for business and resources at Colchester Council, said the rise could be necessary in the face of continued cuts from Whitehall.
It is unknown how much the tax could rise by at this time, but Mr Smith said the increase could be significant after three years of freezing council tax and central government cuts.
The government grant to Colchester Council is set to be cut by 16 per cent next year, and a further 15 per cent the year after.
