New hospital IT system delayed by nine months
A NEW IT system at Colchester’s hospitals has been delayed by at least nine months.
Problems with new software holding patient records has led to hospital directors putting back the scheme.
The project, which would allow doctors and nurses to input patient data straight onto a computer, was originally due to go live last week.
Technicians tried eight times to transfer data from the current system to the new programme but lost information at each test.
A subsequent trial worked but came too late for the system to be rolled out ahead of winter, and the whole project has now been delayed until at least April as the hospital does not want to introduce the scheme and training at what is set to be its busiest part of the year.
