Colchester’s hospitals spend £14 on meals for each patient every day – well above the national average – but is it worth the money?
Statistics from the Health and Social Care Information Centre show the cost of providing food and drink at Colchester General Hospital is £10.63 and at Essex County Hospital £17.42.
One of the meals served up at Colchester General Hospital on Thursday.
The figures are three times higher than some hospitals and above the national average of £9.87.
The hospital trust provides 600 lunches and 600 dinners every day.
