Work starts to rebuild Aldham village hall
9:40am Monday 21st October 2013 in News
BUILDING work has finally begun to rebuild Aldham Village Hall, after years of fundraising by volunteers.
Scaffolding went up at the Green Road site last Monday, and demolition is due to start this week.
The hall’s fundraising team raised £40,000 towards the project and another £106,500 was secured through grants.
Brenda Brown, who is part of the fundraising team, said: “We are relieved that it is finally happening.
“There was always a section of the village that said we would never get it. It is really nice to be able to say told you so – we’ve done it.
“It is right in the middle of the village so everyone can see what is happening. People are really starting to get behind it.
The work is due to be finished in February, but it could be delayed by bad weather.
Ms Brown added: “To have a nice comfortable and warm hall will be lovely.
“We have nowhere else in the village. We are really looking forward to it.
“It has saved the village and the community spirit which I think is quite important.”
