A HUSBAND and wife team have opened their first shop together.
Maria and Gerald Roper, of Brightlingsea, had their grand opening of Ableworld, in Stanway, this week.
The former teachers were looking for a new challenge and decided they wanted to help others.
Mrs Roper, 42, said: “There’s a real need for affordable equipment in Colchester.
“We were both teachers but wanted to do something else and this really appealed to us because we have seen friends needing mobility products and yet couldn’t find what they wanted.”
Ableworld supply a large range of mobilty products such as abdominal and back supports.
The shop has been open for a few days but the couple wanted to keep it quiet until their grand opening.
Mrs Roper added: “I’m really enjoying it. At the moment we are really busy, which is good.
“We’re learning as we go.”
