Review into number of councillors begins
3:50pm Thursday 17th October 2013 in News
A REVIEW which will decide if the number of councillors in Colchester will be cut has begun.
The Local Government Boundary Commission has opened its investigation into the borough and plans to publish a report as early as January next year.
Its initial findings show one in three wards have more than a 10 per cent population variation from the Colchester average, while one ward, Copford and West Stanway, has 30 per cent less.
During the review, the commission will decide on the total number of councillors and wards as well as the names of wards and where boundaries are drawn.
The changes, which will not affect parliamentary constituencies or county council divisions, will be implemented in time for Colchester Council elections in 2016.
