Guests revealed for famous Colchester event
COLCHESTER united is the theme of this year’s Oyster Feast.
The traditional Oyster Feast returns to the Moot Hall next Friday October 25 and will feature esteemed speakers and guests from the town’s community.
The feast, which celebrates Colchester’s famous oysters, has its origins in the St Denis Fair which dates back to the 14th century.
It was revived in its current form in 1845 by Colchester mayor Henry Wolton and among the guests this year is the High Sheriff Julia Abel-Smith, a descendant of Mr Wolton’s family.
Other special guests are the Lord Lieutenant Lord Petre, the Bishop of Chelmsford the Rt Rev Stephen Cotterill and Colchester United manager Joe Dunne.
The guest speakers will be Vicky Reaveley from Guide Dogs, Jonathan Tippett, the headteacher of Stanway School and executive head of Thomas Lord Audley School and Colchester Zoo director Anthony Tropeano.
