Parking permit schemes to become virtual
RESIDENTS’ parking permits in Colchester are set to be replaced by a virtual system.
The North Essex Parking Partnership (NEPP) is introducing a cashless online registration system for permit parking schemes in a bid to be more efficient.
Those who currently display a badge in their car will in future log their car online, while visitors can be registered either online, using a smartphone app or with a text.
The MiPermit scheme is the same system used in Colchester Council-run car parks and an updated renewal letter with details will be sent to every resident shortly before their current permit expires, and information is also being given to those buying visitor tickets.
The changes will affect residents across Colchester and are set to be rolled out to all six areas covered by the NEPP, including Braintree and Tendring, in later months.
