Rail safety warning after youths play on tracks
YOUNGSTERS are urged to stay off railway lines after a teacher spotted kids playing on the tracks.
A warning has been sent to parents and pupils after the incident in Wivenhoe.
Three boys were seen playing with one lying down pretending to be tied to the tracks.
When challenged by the teacher the group told her they wanted to see if he could escape before a train came.
Several schools have now written to parents alerting them to the incident and urging youngsters to avoid the railway line.
Inspector Alan Judd from the British Transport Police, based at Colchester station, said: “The railway is an inherently dangerous environment, with trains running through this area frequently and it should never be treated as a playground or somewhere to hang about.”
- If you witness anyone trespassing or causing trouble on the railway call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or text on 61016.
