Essex University lands £5 million for data research.

THE government has handed Essex University researchers nearly £5 million to use hoards of data to influence policy and benefit the public.
Universities and Science Minister David Willetts has announced the UK Data Service at Colchester campus has been awarded a share of £34 million to help create a Big Data Network.
The money, awarded by the Economic and Social Research Council, will allow Essex data experts to ensure researchers nationwide can safely access large amounts of hugely detailed research.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Anthony Forster added: “It is hugely gratifying that Essex has been chosen to play such a lead role in this immensely important project.
“It is a reflection of our reputation for excellence in research and specifically as the UK’s leading social science university.”
