Illegal gas fitter fined for dangerous work
A SELF-EMPLOYED builder has been fined £10,000 for putting a family in danger from leaking gas pipes.
Peter Brown, 49, illegally replaced a boiler as part of a kitchen refit at the Wivenhoe home.
He was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after an investigation established that he wasn’t registered to undertake gas work.
It also emerged that immediately after carrying out the gas work, he had demanded a cash settlement and refused to complete any details in the boiler’s commissioning documents.
Brown,of Prestbury Green, Shrewsbury, was finally arrested last Wednesday after a warrant was served.
Brown was also ordered to pay costs of £4,000after after pleading guilty to breaching Regulation 3(3) of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 at Colchester Magistrates' Court
