Exhibition for church spire project
BLUEPRINTS for a heritage group’s plans to convert a church spire will go on show this weekend.
The Colchester and North East Essex Building Preservation Trust wants to save the spire and tower at St Peter’s Church, Birch, by turning them into a home.
A viability study has been carried out and the proposals will go on show to the public at Birch Memorial Hall in School Hill, Birch, on Friday between 2pm and 8pm.
The exhibition will run again Saturday from 10am to 4pm.
Members of the Preservation Trust will be on hand to answer questions and there will the opportunity for visitors to give their feedback.
The Trust hopes to raise enough cash from grants to help finance the project, subject to it obtaining planning permission.
The project was launched because the Church Commissioners, who manage the Church of England’s property, said they wanted to demolish the redundant building.
