Plans for Colchester street light switch-off to be published at the end of October

FINAL plans to show which areas in Colchester will have street lights switched off are due to be published at the end of October.
A public consultation, which sought views on Essex County Council’s plans to switch off street lights across the borough, ended on Friday.
But the council’s exact proposals for individual streets will not be published until four weeks before the switch-off is due to be implemented, on November 1.
Tim Young, Colchester councillor responsible for community safety, said: “This shows county hall is not interested in what people have to say on the matter.
“It is an accident waiting to happen and it looks like we are just going to have to wait and see what the consequences are.”
Tendring will follow Colchester, on January 1.
Residents and councillors there have been granted an extension to respond to the consultation.
Lights in the town centre, at busy road junctions, and in areas of high crime are exempt from the proposals.
