Dad admits stealing from children's charity
A DAD stole hundreds of pounds from a children’s charity after his attempt to battle the bulge failed.
Ian Wells told the Colchester Children’s Charity Appeal he wanted to repay them after it carpeted his home to protect a family member.
The relative, who has severe attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, had been banging his head on a concrete floor.
Wells, 36, pledged to lose a stone by doing a sponsored slim. But when he started to pile on the pounds, he pocketed the cash for himself.
Wells, of Queensland Drive, Colchester, admitted theft at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Jackie Froggatt, chair of the magistrates, described the case as “emotive” and sentenced Wells to pay the charity £300 compensation.
He must also do 120 hours unpaid work.
