Kettle goes on at Abbots Activity Centre to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care
The kettle went on at Abbots Activity Centre in Colchester to raise money for the charity.
The elderly members of the centre served up tea, cake and snacks to raise about £100 for Macmillan Cancer Care.
The Fun with Fabric needlecraft group, which also meets at the centre, also raised more than £600 by raffling a handmade quilt for the charity.
Over the years, members at the centre have raised thousands of pounds for a number of charities including the British Heart Foundation, Guide Dogs, Essex Air Ambulance, St Helena Hospice and the centre.
However, it is to close next month as Colchester Council says it can no longer afford the £74,000 a year subsidy.
