Brightlingsea: Outdoor pool smashes attendance records

BRIGHTLINGSEA’S outdoor swimming pool has made a splash over the summer by smashing its previous attendance records.
Thousands of people flocked to use the pool during the sizzling heat wave this summer.
Attendance figures shot up to more than 14,100, compared to just over 10,000 last year, while income has more than doubled from £13,861 to £28,878.
It marks a record-breaking year for the Tendring Council-run facility, which is the last outdoor pool remaining in Tendring.
Council sports facilities cabinet member Paul Honeywood hailed the massive increase in usage.
“It is the best year for income since records have been kept and this has been achieved despite the fact that we have not raised prices for three years now,” he said.
“We have enjoyed successful partnerships with the local scout group, The Colne Community School and even helped in a mass swim for a local art event.
“We hope to build on this year’s success in 2014 by opening the pool outside of normal operating times, for private hire events such as pool parties and possibly scuba diving.”
