Patient’s plea for drugs turned down, inquest told
10:00am Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
Medics should have considered giving a woman blood-thinning medication weeks before she died, an inquest heard.
Catherine Atkinson had asked for the drugs after an operation on a fractured ankle at Colchester General Hospital.
Staff refused, saying it was not the hospital’s policy.
Mrs Atkinson, 62, of Greystones Close, Colchester, died of a blood clot days after a check-up.
A medical expert at the inquest into her death said the request should not have been dismissed out of hand, but he could not say if the blood-thinning agents would have saved her life.
