Bid to run new Colchester primary school
2:26pm Wednesday 25th September 2013 in News
TEACHERS hope to put in a bid to run a new primary school in Colchester.
Kennedy Academy Trust wants to open Colchester’s first Montessori primary school.
They have applied to the Government to become an academy sponsor in the hope they could then be in the running to open a soon-to-be built school in Braiswick.
Daniel Kennedy, who is leading the bid, said the group were considering two options in order to open the school.
The trust was originally looking at applying to open and build an entirely new school in Colchester.
In order to drum up more support for the proposal they have decided to try and win backing to run the Braiswick site first.
Mr Kennedy said the application, which was due to be handed in this month, had been deferred because they wanted to work with Essex County Council to run a school that had already been planned.
The new Braiswick primary school is expected to open in 2015.
It comes as hundreds of new homes are built in the area.
