Man in court in connection with brutal attack in street
1:50pm Tuesday 24th September 2013 in News
A MAN accused of a brutal attack in Colchester town centre has appeared in court.
Jordan Gibbins, 20, of Mersea Road, Colchester, was charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to an incident that left a man, 24, with a fractured skull.
Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard the victim had left a bar on Monday at about 2am when he was attacked on the corner of St John’s Street and Head Street.
The court heard he was punched in the head several times and fell to the floor.
The victim told police he did not remember anything else, but CCTV footage shows a man stamping on his head three or four times.
He is receiving treatment at Colchester General Hospital for a fractured skull and suspected broken nose.
Gibbins did not enter a plea because the case is too serious to deal with at magistrates court.
No application was made for bail and he was remanded in custody to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on December 2.
