Medieval magic comes to Wivenhoe
12:52pm Tuesday 24th September 2013 in News
WIVENHOE toasted its history with a medieval festival.
Saturday’s all-day event kicked off with a themed procession from the town council offices to St Mary’s Church.
Ale brewed for the celebration was supped at midday.
Other highlights included a weapons drill by Colchester Town Watch and music and dance performances at the church.
Organiser Marika Footring said around 600 people attended.
She added: “It was a fantastic community event and lots of people came along, including children who enjoyed lots of activities.”
Money raised will go towards church maintenance and restoration funds.
The event was last held in 2011 and commemorates how during Medieval times, the church wardens would brew special ale in the church house for the parishioners.
The ale was created by Sitcklegs brewery in Elmstead Market.
