Firefighters to strike tomorrow
9:27am Tuesday 24th September 2013 in News
FIREFIGHTERS are due to go on strike for four hours tomorrow.
Plans are being put in place to cope during the industrial action but Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has urged the people of Essex to take extra care.
A spokesman for the service said: "You should still dial 999 in an emergency and an Essex crew will respond to your call.
"But you can protect yourself by following our advice to be safer, be slower and to be vigilant during periods of reduced fire cover."
Any business with automated fire alarms should call 999 if it is not a false alarm as the calls may not otherwise be responded to.
Homeowners are also urged to install and check fire alarms.
Members of the Fire Brigades' Union are striking over proposed pension reform which could see pensions reduced, contributions increased and firefighters forced to work longer which the union believes could put people in danger.
It is a national strike and will be observed across fire stations in Essex.
