Oldest patient does the honours at the Abbey Field Medical Centre in Colchester
A STATE-of-the-art medical centre has been officially opened - but its longest registered patient.
Peggy Austin, who is 88, was given the honour of cutting the ribbon at the new Abbey Field Medical Centre, in Ypres Road, Colchester, having been with the former Mersea Road practice for 73 years.
The centre has opened in what was the former Garrison military hospital but has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment.
Practice manager Nicky Young said: “We have a state-of-the-art theatre, new consulting and waiting rooms and even have art, which has been donated, on the walls.
“We have done everything we can to make it warm and welcoming.”
The practice has four partners, five registrars and three GPs who care for 11,000 patients.
