Jamie's on a mission to help fellow slimmers

IT was the last straw for Jamie Hooper when she hit the dance floor on New Year’s Eve and her trousers split.
On December 31 2011, she weighed 16st 5lb and had originally refused to go out to celebrate the New Year but was talked into going to town centre hot spot V-Bar by her friends.
It was after that incident she agreed to go to her first Slimming World meeting.
Now, nearly two years later, she has lost almost four stone and can’t wait for this year’s New Year’s Eve party.
Miss Hooper, a support worker who lives in Prettygate, said: “I was beyond embarrassed and couldn't believe what had happened at the club it was like something from a bad teen movie. I left in tears.”
When she began the course, she worried she would miss her favourite foods.
But as long as she kept bad foods to a minimum, she found she could still enjoy Chinese food, curries, as well as unlimited pasta.
During her weight loss, she started studying at the University of East Anglia, in Norwich, which meant her budget tightened.
She added: “As my budget changed, I was so thankful for my group because many other people had tight budgets and it was great to share meal ideas or learn where the best deals were that week.
“It meant I could still eat well and still have my beloved evening glass of wine.”
Miss Hooper, who also studies occupational therapy, will host her first Slimming World session on Saturday at 8.30am in Colchester Institute, in Sheepen Road.
