A COLCHESTER bereavement group has celebrated its 30th birthday.
Colchester Cruse Social Group, formed in September 1983, focuses on bereaved people who have come to terms with their loss and who are beginning to rebuild their social lives.
Its first leader was Mary Canham, whose home the group also met in.
In April 1984, as numbers increased, meetings were changed to Friends’ Meeting House,
By 2002, the group was so well-attended, it began meeting at St Botolph’s Church Hall, off St Botolph’s Street.
In May 2010, Mrs Canham died, but the group continues to thrive.
The group, the only one of its kind in the UK, now meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month at the church hall, between 2pm and 4pm.
During each meeting, there is usually a speaker or a planned activity for members.
