Colchester: Motor bought for £22 could sell for £70k
A VINTAGE motor cherished by its owner for more than 50 years could fetch up to £70,000 when it goes under the hammer.
The 1931 Lagonda, resembling the iconic car from the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, was bought by the enthusiast in 1961 for just £22 and 10 shillings.
It is being put up for auction by relatives of the former owner, Peter White, who lived in Sible Hedingham and died last year.
The car will go up for auction on September 25 at Reeman Dansie auctioneers, in Wyncolls Road, Colchester.
James Grinter, managing director, said the car was Mr White’s “pride and joy”.
Around 40 of the cars are thought to be in existence.
The motor even comes with an old log book, 1961 ‘bill of sale’ and various early history documents.
