Colchester: Offices could be final chapter in The Twist's tale
A FORMER live music venue could be turned into offices.
However, the transformation of what was the Twist, in Military Road, Colchester, could provide 19 jobs if given the thumbs-up.
The plans for the offices have been submitted by Luke Patten, director of a number of publishing companies.
They have been submitted to Colchester Council.
Businessman Gavin Wilby closed The Twist in May because he said it would cost too much for him to refurbish the building.
He had only ran the premises for 12 months, having ploughed £25,000 into the relaunch.
Bringing it up to scratch would have cost another £30,000, he said.
The Twist was one of Colchester’s top live music venues in the 1980s and 1990s.
Mr Wilby tried to reinvigorate the venue by introducing burlesque shows, club nights and magic acts.
In April, the building’s landlord put the Twist up for sale for £175,000.
Mr Wilby had rented the property.
Colchester Council aims to decide on the planning application by November 1.
