Rowhedge: New hair salon opens without running water
9:00am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in News
A HAIR salon resorted to using bottled water on customers on its first day of opening after a meter wasn’t installed in time.
Blow dries and colouring were a complete no-go and tea and coffee could only be made using the bottled water at Safade in High Street, Rowhedge, on Monday.
Customers wanting their feet pampered in the foot spa could only do so thanks to it being filled with the bottled water too.
Sisters Jade and Saffron Holbrow opened the business’s doors for trade but could only cut people’s hair dry or had to ask them to arrive with it already wet.
Anglian Water was supposed to fit a meter into the new building last month in time for it opening.
Jade, 24, joint manager with her sister, said: “I had a full day of clients and I’ve to rebook them all.
“I can go out to some of them as I used to be a mobile hairdresser but it is the inconvenience of it really.
“We are starting to open a business and a massive company like Anglian Water should be able to do something,” she added.
Jade and Saffron, 20, both of Albion Street, Rowhedge, had been under the impression a plumber from Anglian Water who installed the pipes was also going to put the meter in.
But when he turned up it emerged the meter would have to be installed separately.
Jade added: “We are ready, all the sinks are in and we are just waiting for them to come and put the meter in.
“They came back last week and said they would call again within 48 hours to fit the meter but we heard nothing.
“They contacted us today and they are going to come and fit it Wednesday morning.”
An Anglian Water spokesman said: “We are sorry it took so long for someone to get in touch with Safade and arrange for a meter to be fitted.
“Starting a new business can be a stressful time, so we are sorry if we have caused them any inconvenience.
“An appointment has now been made and a meter will be fitted Wednesday morning.”
