Crowds flock to Oyster Festival
THOUSANDS of people flocked to Castle Park yesterday to celebrate the Colchester oyster.
The town’s heritage was celebrated at the fourth Oyster Festival which this year had a Roman theme.
And as part of the tradition to transport ceremonial oysters to the festival by a different method each year, the oysters arrived by Roman boat paddled up the River Colne from Mersea Island.
An estimated 7,000 people came to the event which included food from around the world and fun and games.
