In today's Gazette: Smash and grab raiders snatched rings worth £8,000 from a jewellery shop.
Two hooded crooks made a hole in the reinforced glass at Ernest Jones in Culver Square, Colchester, and took about 40 rings in the early hours of yesterday morning.
* Stunned Theresa Clewley thought her luck was ni when she checked her bank balance and found she had been paid £35,000 for a week's work.
But hopes of a bonus for promoting the Stockwell restaurant in Colchester when she found out it the was wage bill for all the restaurant's workers - and they couldn't be paid until she gave it back.
* Public money is being flsuhed down the loo by Colchester Council which is forking out thousands of pounds every year for toilet blocks no-one can use.
The council has paid a total of £26,397 in business rates on three sets of shut-up public toilets since 2002- pushing the total paid on empty properties in the borough to more than £600,000. Meanwhile, the council is tonight considering closing an activity centre for pensioners in a bid to save cash.
* The mum of a murdered teenager will lay a wreath at the spot where he was killed a year on from the fatal stabbing.
Jay Whiston, 17, was killed outside a house party in Marlowe Way, Colchester, on September 8.
