Wivenhoe hall plans set for approval
CONTROVERSIAL plans to convert a former Methodist hall into a pottery studio have been recommended for approval.
Renowned potter Pru Green wants to turn the old St John Ambulance hall in Chapel Road, Wivenhoe, into a gallery and workshop with first floor flat.
The proposals have been opposed by the town council and Wivenhoe Community Trust who say the hall is a much-needed community facility.
A previous planning application was rejected by councillors who said there was not enough evidence the scheme would not have a negative impact on the amount of community space available in a decision upheld by a planning inspector.
But the latest application, which includes a detailed assessment of space for hire in Wivenhoe, has been recommended for approval by Colchester Council officers.
- The planning committee is due to make a decision at its meeting on Thursday September 12.
